Myanmar Opens 46 CNG Stations

Myanmar has opened a total of 46 compressed national gas (CNG) filling stations, 95 percent of which are in Yangon, according to U Hla Win Htay, general manager of Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprises.

“CNG stations in Yangon are selling CNG gas around the clock without any day off,” said the executive. “Onshore gas production is around 40 million cubic feet. If we operate two fertilizer plants, they will require 20 million cubic feet and the rest will come to CNG stations.

“Yangon requires around 22-23 million cubic feet for YBS buses and taxis, meaning we will need an additional 2.5 to 3 million cubic feet of supply,” he said. “For that we require gas from Zawtika offshore project.”

Forty-one CNG gas stations in Yangon serve a total of 26,971 vehicles while two CNG stations in Mandalay provide gas to 742, a single station in Chauck City serves 335 vehicles and two stations in Yenan Chaung 251 vehicles.

There are 109 gas compressors in Myanmar, including 55 high-power compressors, 12 medium-power compressors and 42 low-power compressors, according to Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprises.

CNG vehicles in Yangon include 1,280 transport trucks, 6,172 passenger cars and 17,103 taxis.
